Dr. Alexander Walsh received an engineering degree from Stanford University and his M.D. from Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons. He completed his Ophthalmology residency at the Wilmer Eye Institute, Johns Hopkins Hospital, followed by a clinical and research fellowship in vitreoretinal surgery at the Doheny Eye Institute.

Dr. Walsh directs the Doheny Imaging Exploration and Software Engineering Laboratory (DIESEL) at the Doheny Eye Institute. His primary areas of research are diagnostic medical imaging and software image analysis, and his research focuses on the development of computer software to provide more accurate, comprehensive and detailed analyses for images of the back of the eye.
